Whether you are traveling by plane, car or any other means of transport, long trips can be quite a burden on kids. Eventually, this burden will weigh onto you as you try to keep the little ones occupied. Here are some great activities for kids to keep them occupied throughout.
There are quite a few games in which you can get your kids to play on paper while traveling. Old favorites like hangman, connect-the-dots, and tic-tac-toe are sure to keep your kids occupied at the beginning. As you progress through the trip you can always move onto others like the battleship or the license plate game. Go online to find some printable templates with directions. They are cheap and fun!
This is a great one to bust the boredom. Make out one of these trays in less than ten minutes with a cookie sheet and contact paper. Draw on it with dry-erase markers or chalk. Kids can also use such trays to play travel games like hangman or even tic-tac-toe. Your children can also use the surface for playing cards or for their fun magnets.
Give your kids a few blank papers or a small notepad as you set off on your trip. Ask them to write a story about what they see or what they plan to do once they reach their destination. You can even ask them to write about what they do on a daily basis. On the other hand, you can encourage them to draw pictures of what they see, the different places that they stay at or even the people who are traveling along. This will surely keep your kids occupied for hours at a stretch.
Remember that it is important for you to make sure that your child enjoys the trip as much as you do. After all, you don’t want him or her to try avoiding traveling with you again!
