What Is Plant Transport System?

The plant transport system consists of vessels that carry water, nutrients and mineral salts to all cells in a plant. The vessels can be found in the roots, stems and leaves.

There are two types of vessels in a flowering plant-the xylem and the phloem.

The xylem is a vessel which transports water and mineral salts from the roots to the leaves.

The phloem is a vessel which transports food (glucose) from the leaves to the stems and roots. Food is made in the green leaves during photosynthesis.

The xylem and phloem are often found side by side forming bundles called vascular bundles.
